After our hike we checked into our hotel, Caravan – The Tiny House Hotel. This place was the absolute cutest and we were told it was the very first hotel of its kind! We stayed in Kangablue, the biggest caravan out of the six. I loved how charming it was and was enchanted with the neighborhood we were in. There is a grilled cheese stand right next to the hotel and a bar behind it.
After we scarfed down our grilled cheese sandwiches we visited McMenamins Kennedy School, a hotel/bar/theater/former elementary school, to watch a baseball game in the Boiler Room Bar (just 1 out of the 5 bars they have there) and grab some drinks. The place originally opened as a school in 1915 and closed down in the 70s, staying abandoned for many years before it was turned into the hotel it is now. This place is huge and still has the look and feel of an actual school, which makes it kind of spooky to me. I swear this place is haunted and the creepy art says so too. (I checked and apparently it actually is haunted).
Of course, we had to end the night with dessert and went to the infamous Salt & Straw icecream parlor. They have really unique flavors so I tried a sample of their pear & bleu cheese flavor and one of their Halloween flavors. They didn’t blow my mind so I took a gamble and opted with two scoops: one of honey lavender and the other strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper. They were both pretty good, but the honey lavender was my everything. A satisfying way to end my first night in Portland!
